Run away to the Hawke's Bay for the Air New Zealand Hawkes Bay Marathon, an all new running festival incorporating 42km, 21km, 10km and 3km kids run options. Take in the best highlights of the region, with flat easy running through local cycle trails, vineyards, olive groves, quiet country roads - all finishing at the impressive Sileni Estates Winery where you can celebrate your efforts in style.

The event courses are flat, easy running. They each offer a unique mix of running terrain, with a combination of running on-road, bike trails and through vineyards. The courses take in the highlights of the Hawke's Bay region which overall include running along the waterfront in Napier, Hawke's Bay cycle trails and quiet country roads, with the last 10km of the courses running through private vineyards and olive groves. The finish line for all events is set in the gorgeous surroundings of Sileni Estates Winery.

Air New Zealand Hawkes Bay Marathon

Destination Hawke’s Bay.

The Hawkes Bay area, encompassing Napier and Hastings, is one of New Zealand’s must see regions. Located on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, occupying around 14,000 square kilometers of diverse and amazing landscapes from mountains to coastal plains. The Bay has many great things to do, places to stay, plus amazing food and wine, architecture, beaches and wildlife to experience.

Napier is known as the Art Deco Capital of New Zealand boasting incredible and inspiring architecture built throughout the 1930s after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 1931. Tremains Art Deco weekend is held every February attracting enthusiasts from around the world to the region to celebrate with their cars, costumes and other condiments. Art, culture, exhibitions and shows are all well embraced in this area.

The region boasts thousands of acres of vineyards, orchards and farms, providing a picturesque backdrop, and making the region well known for its wine and food production. Soak up the tastes and views while wine and cheese tasting at one of the well-known vineyards.

The Hawkes Bay Farmers market is held every Sunday in Hastings. A fantastic opportunity to meet the grower or producer of such a wide variety of fine high quality products. Leisurely wander around with a fresh hot coffee, listening to local music and enjoying the local tastes.

Course Options:

Air New Zealand Marathon – 42.195km

Flat course, easy running. The course offers a unique mix of running terrain, with a combination of running on-road, bike trails and through vineyards. The course takes in the highlights of the Hawkes Bay region including the start line on Marine Parade in Napier, running along the waterfront; Hawkes Bay cycle trails; quiet country roads; with the last 10km of the course running through private vineyards and olive groves; and the finish line at Sileni Estates Winery.

NZ Sotheby’s RE Half Marathon – 21.1km

Flat course, easy running. The course offers a unique mix of running terrain, with a combination of running on-road, bike trails and through vineyards. The course takes in the highlights of the region including cycle trails; quiet country roads; with the last 10km of the course running through private vineyards and olive groves; and the finish line at Sileni Estates Winery. Walkers are welcome to enter in the Half Marathon. Please ensure walkers start at the back behind the runners and keep to the left at all times.

AIA 10km

The course takes in the highlights of the wine region - running through private vineyards and olive groves; with the finish line at Sileni Estates Winery. The race will start within the Gimblett Gravels Wine District. From this point it’s largely trail all the way to the end through a combination of the vineyards, farmland and olive groves finishing through the Bridge Pa wine district to the finish line at Sileni.

Kids Run

The kids run will take place within the grounds of Sileni Estates Winery and will be approximately 3km in distance.
